We’ re purging the basement and m y wife requested that I go though my car wash stuff as i t’s occupying two large bins. It consists of cheap microfiber cloths that I would never touch the cars with, a foam cannon I never use, a few applicators, a bunch of old clay, and whatever is left in the various containers of products I have purchased over the years. I have a few nice drying/buffing towels and a good mitt. I also have a Torq X polisher starter kit that I got for Christmas a few years ago, but have not yet used. I’m kind of afraid to.

So I decided to take it all to the driveway and wash the Alltrack one last time with my cobbled together kit and tiny buckets. Afterward I retired ALL of my microfibers to their final cycle of life “oil rags”. I chucked old/unwanted product, then took inventory.

I had already placed an order with Chemical Guys back on 10/1 for two of their fancy buckets with dirt traps, drying towels, buffing towels, and a few products/brushes... I never got a shipping notification so I called em. They were like “ uh yeah whoops. It’s on it’s way now and well knock 25% off for the mistake. ” N eeto, but I wanted to wash the car this weekend, in addition the bottle of Gtechniq (recommended by Svend) that I ordered has also still not arrived.

Auto parts places only had big jugs and since I have more than one type of car wash on order already... I didn’t want a huge bottle. I found a small bottle of “Extreme Body Wash and Wax” at Walmart. It was ok but probably my least favorite chemical guys wash. Not very sudsy, I like the bubbles. Maybe I didn’t use enough.

I just did a quick wash here, but took the time to polish the exhaust. The car has not been washed since I stored it in February. Of course it rained immediately afterward, but it will just make the next wash easier/faster.

I bought a “glaze”, which I have never used before. Apparently it goes on after clay but before wax. I’m telling myself I’m going to finally use the polisher for this, but I will probably chicken out and just do both by hand like always.

Ok, hope everyone had a good weekend. Here are pics.

Very nice. The car looks great.

Re; the polisher, get a scrap panel, maybe a bonnet and practice on it with it.

Spertwergen looks very nice! A clean VW is a happy VW and you do not want an unhappy VW.

I have a similar 6" Griots polisher and it’s very easy to use. Just start with not as abrasive compound for practice or a spare panel as Svend suggested. It was a bit intimidating at first but I love using it now.

I was going to use it to apply the glaze and wax, thoughts?

Oh yeah they’re great for that too. Speeds up the process. Not too much to worry about applying those with an orbital.

My exhaust tips are so black (like your before but worse) . What process did you use to get them cleaned?

metal polish and #0000 steel wool. Put the polish on the wool, scrub them pipes, buff it off.

Fo sho. I was blown away at how well they came out the first time I did it. Even on the M3, whos exhaust went the better part of a decade without a polishing.

I definitely got this intel from another oppo, maybe Svend but I think it was someone else. Pass it on!

I was gonna ask the same. I don’t know where my mind is but as I was scrolling through the pictures I thought those look just like my exhaust tips, then I got to the interior pic and remembered duh they  are my tips.

I hate to admit it but I’ve been meaning to handwash the cars for a while. I have a milk cratw overflowing with products. I finally broke down and took them both to the car wash at the filing station. Done beats perfect.
